When selling your home, the goal is to attract buyers and one way to do this is by "staging" your home. You want your home to be inviting and allow the potential buyer to see themselves living there.

Many agents work with, or can recommend, professional home stagers to help you with this process, however there are a few key things that you can do to get the ball rolling.

It's a good idea to start with the exterior of your home as this is what potential buyers will see first and decide whether or not to proceed into the house to see more. You want to make a great first impression with your front yard.

  1. Trim lawns, shrubs and trees. Flower beds and pots should also be weeded.

  1. Give your house siding a good wash or fresh stain.

  1. Your home should be clean and free of clutter. This includes countertops and closets.

  1. Remove as much “personal”  stuff as possible (i.e. collections, knick-knacks and family photographs)

  1. Eliminate any strong odors that may be in your home (i.e. pet odors, cigarette smoke, strong candles, etc.)

  1. Remove any excess furniture you may have that dosen’t necessarily have to be there. You want your rooms to appear spacious and not crowded.

  1. Perform any and all maintenance items that you have been putting off.

  1. Fresh flowers are often a nice touch (try to pick flowers that do not have overpowering scents)

  1. Clean, Clean, Clean.

  1. Ask your agent for their home staging suggestions.
