For the next month you will see the huge yellow duck sitting around out front of different businesses in Grants Pass. What is the purpose of the Duck, you ask? The simple answer is to raise money!
The Rotary Clubs of Grants Pass join together for this yearly charity fundraiser.
Anyone may purchase a duck for $10.00 which allows you to be entered into the Duck Derby which is held on Sept. 26th in downtown Grants Pass at the Rogue River bridge! The ducks are dumped into the Rogue River at the starting point and the first duck to cross the finish line (at the other bridge) is the winner for the person who bought it! Prizes are fantastic and have been donated by various businesses.
Yes it is amazing to see hoards of grown people hollering at their plastic duck to hurry up and cross the finish line! But the rewards of a prize will overshadow decorum any day!
The money gathered from this yearly event is split three ways for each of the high schools in Grants Pass. The schools from the previous year have been able to upgrade their track fields and bring visiting schools to our area for events. An accomplishment of this size exciting for the kids and brings the community together for the good of the community!
So purchase your little yellow duck as you are traveling through town, and catch a glimpse of the BIG yellow duck...
